ANIMAL DISASTER RELIEF
It is the mission of Oconee County Emergency Services during a disaster to alert or notify and provide shelter if necessary for owners with domesticated animals. This function is accomplished through the efforts of the County Animal/Agricultural Response Team.
Oconee County has agreements in place with providers of temporary shelter for domesticated animals. If a pet shelter is opened, domesticated animals will be housed for residents while they are in a Red Cross shelter.

The Army National Guard Armory located at 1 Dozier Drive in Seneca will serve as the primary Animal Disaster Relief Shelter for small animals. Oconee County Humane Society will also serve as a shelter.
The Oconee County 4-H Barn located on Oak Grove Road off of Doyle Street will be the primary large animal shelter. The Garrison Arena will be the secondary shelter for large animals when available.

Pets will not be allowed in shelter(s) without health records. The animal’s health care provider should be named prior to entry into the shelter. If records are not brought to the shelter, pets will be immunized against Rabies, Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parvo (DHLP), and Kennel Cough before admittance at cost to owner. A tag or certificate will not be issued for rabies vaccination.
